Don’t Sabotage Your Sperm

low sperm count

It’s a concern that all men have but few take active measures to prevent. One can ignore it for as long as he pleases. But the threat of a lowered sperm count is not just a myth.

And there’s more random stuff that causes it than you likely ever really thought possible. The following list will not hit on everything. Surely you’ve already heard about the standard smoking cigarettes and consuming alcohol. You know in the back of your mind that those nasty habits will catch up with you sooner or later. So we don’t have to remind you on that. Instead, we’d like to focus on the more unconventional ways that you could damage your chances of having kids. Here are the the 5 weirdest ways that you can sabotage your sperm count.

Tight Pants

This one goes out to all you rebellious hipsters out there. Those super ultra skinny jeans the world has come to know you for could actually be doing some serious damage to your family jewels. The same goes for tight underwear. So if you’re a briefs guy, it’s time to switch to boxers. Set the little ones free or suffer the consequences. Because if you don’t, you might inadvertently raise your testicles to an unsustainable temperature. All it takes is a couple degrees and your sperm production will drop dramatically. If the damage is already done. Not to worry, you can easily reverse it as soon as you switch your clothes to something looser. And don’t worry if it takes a little while. Recovering from low sperm count can take up to three months.

Too Much Endurance Exercise

Here’s a zinger you can throw at all your buddies who live at the gym. If you push your body to its limits on a regular basis, you could lower your testosterone. Without the proper amount of testosterone in your body, you will not be able to produce a sufficient amount of sperm to be actively fertile. Low testosterone also has its share of other side effects, none of which are particularly pleasant for a man. So if you’re the type who loves to push yourself physically, just be sure to set some time each week to allow your body to recover.

Wearing Sunscreen

Now would be a reasonable point in the article to start scratching your head. But you read correctly. In fact, too much exposure to sunscreen can interfere with hormones and effectively impair fertility by as much as 30%. That’s not to say you should just go lay out in the sun unprotected all day. Skin cancer is a bigger concern than having kids. At least for most people. Just make sure you take a shower once you get inside to wash it off.

Watching Too TV

We’d hate to interrupt your binge watching sessions. But the evidence is there and it’s official. Studies show that men who watch large amounts of TV produce substantially less sperm than men who are more physically active and spend less time on the couch. By the numbers, men who watch over 20 hours a week of television reportedly produce as much as 44% less sperm than men who watch close to no TV at all.

One of the most common causes of infertility is varicocele. This is when you have blockage in the veins in your scrotum. This can disrupt your testosterone production. Fortunately for you, there’s a relatively easy solution. It’s called varicocele repair and it’s available in New York City. It’s a minimally invasive surgical procedure that could turn your life around.
